Everybody Loves a Clown

Yes folks everybody loves a clown.  Pwera si Howard Stern, but that's another story.  Katatapos lang po ng Somerville Memorial Day Parade.  S'yempre pa hit ang Aleppo Shrine Clowns of Wilmington, Massachusetts.

The Aleppo  Shrine  Clowns  is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality family entertainment and raising awareness and funds to support the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, which provide free orthopedic, burn, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palette care to children.

Just clowning around.

"Well, here's another fine mess you've gotten me into."

Boston Celtics - Eastern Conference Champs!

It looks like, tipong, mukhang Celtics vs. Lakers ulet, na naman and again sa finals.  Umiral ang Irish luck laban sa Magic kagabi kaya Celtics fans wasted no time putting on the “Beat LA” T-shirts. Oh my gid!  Me pekeng Comelec este press pass pa siya kuno.  Ang maganda dito eh after a bruising six-game series me 5 days to rest and recuperate ang ating green team.  Go Celtics! Beat LA!

Butt Out!

Fil-Am Artist Spreading Hope With Art

US of A at mundo.  May kasamang note na - "This painting is yours if you promise to smile at random people more often."   Ngayon dahil sa recession dito sa land of milk, honey and foreclosure eh ganito na po ang kasamang note ng mga painting niya - "Everything Will Be All Right…This painting is yours to take for free."  Napakalaking morale booster kung ikaw  ay nawala ng trabaho in these hard economic times.  Mabuhay ka Bren!

From Alaska to Las Vegas to NYC, artist Bren Bataclan leaves his paintings in unexpected places. Bataclan's hope is to turn the economy around, with his paintings.  CBS Michelle Miller reports.

Si Pareng David, Mareng Oprah at s'yempre pa si Baby Charice

Here come the godparents, Oprah Winfrey and David Foster at the baptism of international singing sensation Charice Pempengco and her brother Carl Saturday morning at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Pasig City.
US entertainment  mogul Winfrey and Canadian record producer/composer Foster, two principal sponsors who played a major role in Charice’s ascent to international stardom, couldn’t make the international flight to Manila to attend the ceremony.  Instead, Winfrey sent her own TV crew to document the event. Foods To Die For

Bakit nga ba masarap yung bawal, like 'tong Chinese lechon, $7 to $9 per pound.  Ibang klase ang lutong ng balat.  Pagkahango binababad ng bigla sa ice water with ice cubes kaya super lutong.

Ang pamatay na Crispy pata.  Five to six bucks a pound.  Wala silang sawsawan, kaya DIY na lang.  Suka, toyo, bawang, sibuyas at asukal.  Wait punas laway muna.

Soy chicken, litsong manok at Peking Duck. 14 to 16 dolyares ang isa.

Dr Garma Freshly Chopped Chicharon.

StyleWeek Providence

StyleWeek Providence is a weeklong celebration of the fashion, design and culture. At its core are daily formal, invitation-only runway fashion shows for buyers, press and stylists from the Northeast and major metropolitan areas throughout the country. Modeled on major Fashion Weeks in cities like New York, Milan, Paris and London; StyleWeek Providence is New England’s only fashion week event that focuses on the business of fashion. StyleWeek’s shows feature a range of designers, introducing both new talent and latest collections from internationally recognized fashion houses to buyers and media.

Surrounding those shows are events to engage the public—both residents of and visitors to Providence, the Creative Capital. These include special restaurant and hotel promotions, retail specials, showcases for accessories and other fashion-related items, and parties where the public will be able to see videos of the daily fashion shows.

All this, set against the backdrop of gorgeous Providence, one of the country’s best-known hubs for arts, culture, and design.

NIRVA Autumn/Winter 2010-2011
will be showing in Providence, Rhode Island
Thursday June 10th, 6pm  at Hotel Providence.
Please RSVP soon at contact@nirva.com.
Would love to see you there!

The first signs of a designer emerged when at the age of three Nirva Derbekyan sketched her first design. With her strong Armenian heritage, she was born and grew up in Istanbul, Turkey. From a young age, she was always surrounded by luxurious fabrics by her grandfather who owned a fabric store and her seamstress mother who would make all her dresses. Nirva was also surrounded by creativity as her family including a ballroom dance instructor, an actor and a painter. She continued to sketch, and at the age of ten, she knew for sure that she would be a fashion designer.

Nirva moved to Boston with her family in the early 90’s, and her passion led her to receive a Fashion Design degree from Massachusetts College of Art. She consecutively won the Fashion Award for Excellence. After graduating, she acquired much experience in the fashion industry in USA and London, England. London was a life changing experience as she worked, further studied, and traveled Europe for five years. Having this global fashion knowledge under her wings, she returned to the Boston area to form her namesake label.

Nirva clothing is tinted with nostalgia...feminine with delicate provocation that celebrates each woman. Opulent silks, wools, cottons, detailed couture techniques are at the heart of her collections. High standards of quality are never compromised, paying attention to detail right down to each exotic bead. Taking inspiration from her travels, her creative family, and her culture, each garment exudes genuine character and elegance.

Nirva’s designs are sold at upscale boutiques in Boston and from her studio in Lexington MA.

Busina King

Llyn Foulkes marches to the beat of his own drum — and bass, xylophone, car horn and cowbell. The idiosyncratic painter…is also an accomplished musician.  And his instrument of choice is, well, all of them.

Foulkes plays a homemade contraption called the Machine, a dense, wraparound nest of scavenged and invented instruments whose crowning glory is a clump of old-fashioned car and bicycle horns.

Sowa Street Fashion Show

I was able to catch the ending of the fashion show at Sowa Open Market last Sunday.  This is one of unique gowns made one of the local fashion designers, which was so eye-catching, everyone had to stop and look.

It's not everyday that one gets up close and personal with a fashion show model.

Whatever was the inspiration for this gown, it sure looks like it's out of this world.

Banksy Tags Boston

Banksy is a pseudonymous British graffiti artist. He is believed to be a native of Yate, South Gloucestershire, near Bristol and to have been born in 1974, but his identity is unknown. According to Tristan Manco, Banksy "was born in 1974 and raised in Bristol, England. The son of a photocopier technician, he trained as a butcher but became involved in graffiti during the great Bristol aerosol boom of the late 1980s." His artworks are often satirical pieces of art on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. His street art, which combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stencilling  technique, is similar to Blek le Rat, who began to work with stencils in 1981 in Paris and members of the anarcho-punk band Crass who maintained a graffiti stencil campaign on the London Tube System in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His art has appeared in cities around the world. Banksy's work was born out of the Bristol underground scene which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. [wiki]

A Banksy styled tags on the sidewall of Shabu-Shabu, KTV restaurant in Boston Chinatown, just after the boundary of the long gone Boston Combat Zone. Is it a Banksy? I don't know but this is my attempt to incorporate the girl in pony tail in a Banksy styled graffiti.

Karamihan ng pinoy na nabubuhay sa less than a dollar a day eh treat na po kung magbukas ng isang lata ng Ligo Sardines o Ligo Meat Loaf minsan sa isang linggo.  It is sad but yan po realidad sa ating bayang magiliw.

Uncle Sam

Uncle Sam is the national personification of the United States and sometimes more specifically of the American government, with the first usage of the term dating from the War of 1812. He is depicted as a stern elderly white man with white hair and a goatee  beard, and dressed in clothing that recalls the design elements of flag of the United States—for example, typically a top hat with red and white stripes and white stars on a blue band, and red and white striped trousers.  [wiki]

Vote wisely!
