"Kristo" - Senakulo sa US of A

Flipside Network will be staging the highly acclaimed Philippine Passion Play (Senakulo), “Kristo” during the Lenten Season of March 7, 2010 at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center in Hayward, Ca. Portraying the role of Jesus is two-time Philippine best actor, Mat Ranillo III together with Krista Ranillo, Suzette Ranillo, Joji Isla, Jackie Castillejo, Lilibeth De Rivera, Thange Monteclaro, Ryan Ortiz, Fr. Geoffrey Baraan and Gloria Sevilla. Choreography by Johnny Veloso.

“Kristo” is a spectacular dramatization of the life and times of our Lord Jesus Christ from a Filipino point of view, utilizing the stylized form of dance-drama and pantomime. The play was initially staged at the Folk Arts Theater, Manila in 1977. Endorsed by the late Cardinal Sin & Monsignor Dakay of Philippines , “Kristo” ran for several years and had tours in the provinces of Bacolod and Cebu.

Joji Isla is Longhinus in "Kristo"

Before migrating to the US, one of my favorite character & comedy actor actor, Joji Isla was very active in Philippine radio, television and stage. He was and still is one of the versatile actors the industry has had.

On TV, he donned different characters in IBC 13's hilarious political satire "Sic O' Clock News" with the late Rene Requestas and Jaime Fabregas. He aws aide-de-camp to Congressman Tengco in the hit ABS-CBN sitcom "Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata" for so many years. Kuya Joji was also a part of of the kid show "Ang TV" which started the careers of Claudine Barreto, Paolo Contis, Jolina Magdangal, Lailani Navarro, and many others.

On stage, Kuya Joji was part of many theater plays with CCP's Tanghalan Pilipino in which his credits include "Kenkoy Loves Rosing", Pilipinas Circa 1907", "Bongbong at Kris", "Scapino", the opera "Rizal: Mga Huling Araw", and "Walang Sugat" including it's Indonesian tour.



Pinoy movie-goers are also familiar with Joji Isla as he appeared in at lest 40 Filipino films, mostly comedy. Here in the US, Joji landed a major role in "Corky's Hot Ice"- a thriller/comedy indie film which was shown in some Bay Area theaters last year.

Joji's latest stage stint was in the song and dance musical "Green Card" with Fe Delos Reyes, Thage Monteclaro, & Dandin Ranillo at the Ichiban Library shown before Christmas last year.

This coming Lent Season, Joji will be part of the passion play-senakulo, "Kristo" (the story of our Lord Jesus done in Filipino setting, songs, songs, & music) to be shown at Chabot College Performing Arts Center, Sunday March 7, 2010.

Joji will portray the roles of Longhinus, the leader of Roman soldiers who pierced Jesus's side at the cruxifiction and Simon the Pharisee.


"Krito" is a dance-musical drama-pantomime form, which means there is no dialogue, just music and movements. "Kristo" also features two-time best actor, Mat Ranillo as Jesus together with the talented dancers of Steps Styles & Spotlights School of Dance together with many other Filipino actors who now reside here in the Bay Area.

Pinoy sa Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics

John Robert "J. R." Celski (born July 17, 1990) is an Filipino-American short track speed skater. He won the bronze medal in the men's 1500 meters race at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Celski has also won 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals at the World ChampionshipsHe won the overall title at the U.S. Junior Championships twice (2007, 2008) and was the overall silver medalist at the 2008 U.S. National Championships.

J. R. Celski was born in Monterey, California where his father was serving in the U.S. Army. He was raised in Federal Way, Washington. His father, Robert, is of Polish descent and his mother, Sue, is of Filipino descent. Celski has two older brothers, Chris and David. [wiki]



Amanda Evora (born November 17, 1984) is an American pair skater. She competes with Mark Ladwig. They are the 2010 U.S. silver medalists and the 2007 & 2009 U.S. pewter medalists. At the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, they were chosen to represent the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics, where they finished 10th.

Evora was born in New York, New York. Her family moved to Houston in 1995. Before that, they had lived in Bahrain, Dallas, and Virginia. She is Filipino-American. Evora's longtime boyfriend is pairs skater Jeremy Barrett. [wiki]

Si lola Sharona naman ay buhay pa at isang real estate agent sa Los Angeles. Well folks, its that time of the year na concentrate muna ako sa physical life ko vs. digital life. Or as Dr. Bendover would say "tuwad na ser time." Yes annual medical checkup ni Pinoy po today. Juicekoday baket ba naman sa dami ng doktor dito sa estet eh natapat pa ako dito na parang saging saba ang taba ng mga daliri! Anak yata ni Andre the Giant 'to. Say ni dok "look to the left and cough." Anobayan bakit me may I look to the left na sabay ubo pa. Ang layo naman ng betlog ko sa lungs. Dapat nga look down ako, baka kung ano na ang ginagawa mo jan down under. Enden heto na nga ang kinakatakutan ko. "Dok can you put more KY?" Hirit ko...enden... enden... heto na po at dahandahang biglang exam! Napasigaw tuloy ako ng "LADY GAGA!". Dok baket naman me salat pa, ano yan madyong? After like forever natapos din at luhaan akong iika-ikang nagsuot ng underpants ko. "Congratulation Mr. Pinoy, your prostate is normal and I see you had corn for lunch." See you next year daw. Pwede ba, ayoko na! Hahanap na ako ng bagong doctor. Yung unanong payat na Asian.
