Remembering Ted Kennedy

Right after the memorial mass for Senator Edward Kennedy, they opened the Basilica to the public. For a moment it felt like going to Baclaran Church. I took these snaps trying very hard to avoid the media crew as they pull down miles of cables, lights and TV cameras.

The Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a Roman Catholic Basilica in Boston, Massachusetts, sometimes known as the Mission Church.

The Redemptorist Fathers built a modest wooden mission church on the location in 1870. The current church structure was first built in 1878, of Roxbury puddingstone; its spires were added in 1910. Due to the church's sloping foundation, the west cross tops its tower at 215 feet (66 m); the other spire is two feet shorter. The length of the church is also 215 feet (66 m), presenting a perfect proportion. The church was elevated to basilica status in 1956 by Pope Pius XII.

Senator Edward Kennedy's funeral took place there on August 29, 2009. He had often prayed at the church due to its proximity to the hospitals in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston, where he had visited sick and injured members of his family. [wiki]

Dakilang Lola
by angelz_24

Lolang maing pinakamamahal
siyang nag-aruga sa apo't mga anak
tunay ngang ika'y larawan ng isang mabuting ina at dakilang lola
na karapat dapat igalang at ipagbunyi

kami sayo'y taos pusong nagpapasalamat
sa magandang paghubog sa aming pagkatao
nawa'y ipagpatawad minsanang pagkakamali
na nagbibigay sakit sa ulo mo

aming lola tunay ngang ika'y napakadakila

marapatin nawang ika'y mapaglingkuran

99th Annual Fisherman's Feast of the Madonna Del Soccorso di Sciacca

The Fisherman's Feast is an annual event that began in Boston in 1911 and is based on a tradition that goes back to the 16th century in Sciacca Sicily. The Feast is based on the devotion of the fishermen from Sciacca to the Madonna del Soccorso (Our Lady of Help). When the fishermen immigrated to America in the early 1900's, they brought their traditions with them. Today's Feast is much the same as it was 90 years ago with lights adorning the street and the smell of sausage in the air. The current Feast is organized by the descendants of those original immigrants and still includes a procession of the Madonna through the streets of the North End.

Each August since 1911, the Feast has been held in Boston's historic North End on North and Fleet Streets, making it the North End's oldest continuously running Italian festival. The Feast traditionally starts on Thursday when the statue of the Madonna is moved from her home in the Fisherman's Club to a chapel at the center of the feast. This will be her home throughout the weekend. Thursday is also when the fishermen that founded the Feast are remembered with a blessing of the fishing waters. Each night and during weekend days there is entertainment on the bandstand and vendors selling food (Italian sausages, calamari, pizza, pasta and much more) as well as crafts. The Feast culminates on Sunday night with the spectacular "Flight of the Angel".

"Flight of the Angel"
This is the highlight of the Feast for many people. All day on Sunday, members of the Fisherman's club and their families carry the statue of the Madonna in a procession through the streets of the North End. When the Madonna returns to North Street late in the afternoon, it is time for the grand finale. A young girl dressed as an angel will fly out of a third story window and down to the Madonna. After a short prayer she is raised back up into the window to the cheer of the crowd and showers of confetti. via fisherman's feast

Coke Touch-Screen Vending Machine

The new Coke Touch-Screen Vending Machine brings a whole new level of consumer interaction to automatic vending. The technology uses animation and an interactive menu on its 42-inch display to advertise the product choices within the machine and guide users to make their selection. It is also equipped with Wifi for automatic refill ordering and content updates, along with motion sensors and a built-in camera to record any attempts at vandalism. Pretty neat, ha? But for me its more like an amazing giant iPod.

PINOY JAZZ - The Story of Jazz in Philippines

Piding Alava, Lito Molina and Tony Velarde

Based on Richie Quirino's book, Pinoy Jazz Traditions, which won the 2004 National Book Award in the music category (Philippines), PINOY JAZZ is a 59-minute video documentary that provides the first-ever documentation of the development of jazz in the Philippines, from its infancy in 1898, when Filipinos were first exposed to Black music performed by African-American soldiers, to its present-day maturity in which musicians are turning to indigenous sources for inspiration. Incorporating historical still photography, turn-of-the century film footage, maps, old recordings, present-day performances and interviews with veteran and contemporary musicians, the video presents an eye-opening view into an almost-forgotten history of the art of jazz as it developed in the Philippines over the last century.

Pinoy Mini Me

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her entourage spent more than P37 million – or over P6 million a day – in their six-day stay at the United States early this month. Ha? Wow! Me bago ng Mine Me si Imelda. Medyo frugal pa nga daw sila Mini Me, sabida ni Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

Arroyo and her group spent $371,000 (roughly P18 million) in Washington DC alone. Diyos mio!

Riding Out The Heat Wave

Yes folks it's now official, with mercury rising to 91 degrees means that we have a heat wave. So shave the dog, pack your bags and head down to the nearest pool, fountain or cooling station in your hood.

Okey heto ang heat wave survival guide ng pinoy;

Walang heat wave - heatwave saken!

Pinoy Keymaker reloaded

Pinoy Keymaker
or "Magsususi" is your friendly door to door locksmith. Armed only with basic tools and a bunch of blank keys, he can duplicate
any keys on the spot. Wife locked you out? No problem, Pinoy Keymaker can open any door locks or chastity belt. Cheap, convenient service with a smile. Sumasideline din po ng hasa tuwing linggo. "A hasa! Hasa kayo jan! Hasa!"

The Keymaker is a fictional character in the The Matrix series, originally from The Matrix Reloaded film, portrayed by Asian-American actor Randall Duk Kim. The Keymaker is one of the sentient programs, rogue to the System. It carves shortcut keys used by every program in the Matrix. With those keys one can move throughout the entire Matrix, being able to access any and all of its entities. Summoned by The Oracle in The Matrix Reloaded, protagonist Neo has to find the Keymaker to access the backdoor to the Architect (also credited as The Source) of the Matrix and ultimately save the only human stronghold in the real world, Zion. -[wiki]
