Your Odds of Winning P347 Million

The odds of a "Lotto" style lottery can be found with the formula: n! / (n - r)! r! where n is the highest numbered ball and r is the number of balls chosen. This is called in math a combination. An easier way to think about it is if there are 40 balls and 6 are chosen, there are 40 possible numbers that can come up first, leaving 39 that can come up second, then 38, 37, 36, and finally 35 on the final number. To find out how many numbers that is you multiply 40 ×39 ×38 ×37 ×36 × 35 = 2,763,633,600 making the odds 2 and a half billion to one.

With the likelihood of winning being so small, you are better off burning your money, or giving it to charity.

Farewell Lady Hershey

Our beloved Hershey was a kind and gentle soul that gave us 14 years of happiness. She had manners, always knew her place and showed more care and affection better than a human person would. She had only one offspring, Picabo, who added more joy to all our lives. Sadly, Hershey passed away in her sleep on February 16, due to heart failure. We will miss her deeply for her kind stares and affectionate company during times when we needed emotional support. Hershey will always be remembered this way, for she has filled our lives with love, happiness and quiet joy.

Thank you, Hershey. Thank you for your showing us your love and affection for 14 years. You will be always in our hearts and when we feel sad, we will look at Picabo’s eyes and see you again. Goodbye, Hershey with our love always.

Bertha's Pareidolia

Every now and again a story makes it into the news (or eBay) about someone seeing Jesus or the Virgin Mary in their burrito/grilled cheese/potato chips. You can make your very own
miracles here.

Psychologists class these miracles as Pareidolia, the tendency for people to see images in random noise. This same phenomenon is the basis behind Rorschach tests, the face on Mars and seeing figures in clouds.

Pinoy Rice Cooker

Galing talaga ng Pinoy! Ni-recycle yung sirang electric rice cooker into a high tech kalan using uling & a little Pinoy ingenuity.

The rice cooker is filled with concrete apart from a hole in the middle, with a perforated bottom. In the hole they make a fire from coconut charcoal, and on top of the rice cooker the pan is placed. And what do they cook there? Yes, rice. Now you may think, oh, that's for the people who have no electricity - but not at all! There is a new switch on the rice cooker, made from wood - and a fan installed in the bottom! When you put a piece of burning wood from the normal fire (next to the rice cooker) into the hole, and fill it up with charcoal, and switch "ON" , it takes about 20 seconds to have a perfect fire... really amazing. They call this thing "pressure cooker". - George Dyson

Winter Blues

This is the worst winter in 20 years. Sunod sunod ang winter storms since December.

Park on the wrong side of the street and get an orange parking ticket. Madami ding unreported na side swept car damage dahil sa sikip ng roads. Ilan na din ang namatay because pedestrians are forced to walk on the street.

Ice ice bukol! Dahil sa cycle na melting snow sa araw then refreezing into ice sa gabi eh parang skating rink ang mga sidewalks. Ang delikado yung black ice sa highway, daming aksidente.

When walking look to the left, look to the right then look up and down na din. Or better yet wear a crash helmet. Daming nababagsakan ng ice from the roof. Kaya yung nangangarap na " ang sarap siguro ng winter sa estet " eh yan po ang winter blues dito. At sabida pa hangang Marso pa ito. Huwat! ibalik na ninyo ako sa Pilipinas!
